True worshippers worship in truth. This means declaring God’s truth even when the truth of our personal situation is hard. Like David in the Psalms, true worship recognizes the desperate reality of our present circumstances yet focuses on the one who is greater.
Update on the bit below: Unfortunately it turns out that for some reason Mike made up this story about cancer – you can find my thoughts on that here. Regardless of the truths of the situation, the TRUTH still stands…
Here’s a video about a worship song that Mike Guglielmucci (Planetshakers) wrote upon being diagnosed with cancer. The song’s called “Healer”:
You can listen to the song here:
Here’s an entry from Mike’s blog…
Life’s going great at the moment. Despite suffering from a pretty crazy cancer and technically not having long to live, I know my God is far more than able to deliver me in my time of trouble! God is so good. Although I’m in alot of pain, I have never felt happier or more in the middle of His will for my life!
I think it’s time for the church to arise and proclaim some faith-filled songs that proclaim the greatness of our God over the situations around us.

Worshiping through darkness is when we grow up as worshipers. I’ve never been diagnosed with cancer and can’t imagine what he’s feeling like but I have led worship:
1) an hour after my grandfather died
2)the day after my grandmother died
3) in the midst of horribly painful personal issues
4) at funerals of friends, who died too young
5) Sunday after our pastor’s wife took her own life (this was the morning after) and at her funeral.
Each of these moments made me ask myself did i really believe what I was singing? These were moments of great growth for me as a worshiper.
I’d love for you to read this blog post on leading worship after our pastor’s wife’s suicide:

This is when we know if we really believe God is good……

[...] out that Mike Guglielmucci – writer of the song “Healer” and referenced in this post here – doesn’t have cancer – or at least in the physical sense – and actually never did. [...]
